Hong Kong: Dim Sum, Stanley and City Views

Monday 13 January 2014

So far, I am absolutely loving Hong Kong. I can't believe how much better than London it is. The city is best at night, with this amazing skyline. The image above is the view from Pete's rooftop.

The first night we went for Peking Duck, so headed over to Kowloon on the famous Star Ferry.

On the second day, myself and Jonny decided to go for a wee wander around in the morning, getting our bearings sorted.

We then met up with Yan and we went to City Hall to get some Dim Sum at Maxim's Palace. Pete also joined.

The room we ate in reminded me of somewhere like the afternoon tea rooms in Fortnum and Mason, with large chandeliers. This was proper dim sum, which is usually eaten at lunch. There were wee ladies walking around with trolleys, and so as soon as we sat down, we got hot food right away. We tried everything from dumplings, to char sui buns to special soup dumplings called Xiaolongbao.

Stuffed full of food, myself and Jonny headed to Stanley to see the market and the coast. It's not really the time of the year for the market, so it wasn't that busy. We did find the Tin Hau temple though, which was small but beautiful inside.

It was then time to be introduced to the nightlife of Hong Kong, and it didn't disappoint. We started the night off in Wan Chai at Wooloomooloo rooftop bar, and then went into Lan Kwai Fong, aka crazy party central.
