Glasgow Times

Wednesday 6 December 2017

It's funny, when you leave your hometown, you end up missing it and appreciating it more than when you lived there. That is my sentiment towards Glasgow. Growing up there all I wanted to go was to get out, but since leaving, I love my visits back to this city.

During a surprise visit back in Easter 2015, my parents took me into town and I took some photos for my Dad to use to help promote Glasgow.

If you are ever in Glasgow, be sure to look up and marvel at the stunning architecture of past ages. Sandstone is synonymous with Glasgow and can be seen all throughout the city.

This is in the Financial District of Glasgow, and I love how you can see the old and the new of the city.

George Square is famous in the city, and will host an ice rink in winter and has lots of Christmas lights. I have even seen the World Bagpiping competition being held here too.

My favourite place in Glasgow is the GOMA - Gallery of Modern Art. Mostly because outside is the statue of the Duke of Wellington. It is a long tradition for the drunk weegies to make sure there is always a traffic cone on the top of the statue. The police used to take it down, but no matter what, a traffic cone would find its way back onto the statue. It has become a beloved symbol of Glasgow and it wouldn't feel right without it!

The People's Palace is full of the history of Glasgow and also house the banana boots of the Big Yin (Billy Connolly). It is a great day out for the family.

The Clydeport Crane is also a symbol of Glasgow.

Glasgow University is like the real life version of Hogwarts. My brother did his Masters here, and so he showed me around when we spent a day in the West End.

I have had many a fun times on Ashton Lane, in all the bars. No visit home is complete without a stop off here.

As one of the last meals of this trip, we went to Ox and Finch for lunch. They serve tapas style dishes and we got to try a lot of different flavours. My favourite was the yuzu dessert.

One last stop has to be Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. My parents used to take us as kids to learn more about dinosaurs and the Egyptians. At certain times of the day you can hear an organ player in the big hall.

I will be back in Glasgow in two weeks, and cannot wait to see the city once again!
